At an altitude of 950 meters near the village of Velina and towards Konomavra Klementiou spreads the famous natural forest of black pine, covering an area of 2,200 hectares. The forest is composed of towering trees belonging to Mediterranean endemic species of black pine and is a beloved destination for locals and visitors alike for gentle hiking or cycling.
Following the forest road or the paths that traverse this renowned forest, hikers or cyclists have the opportunity to experience the magic of nature, the rich scents of pine and fir, and to enjoy the unique views that periodically open up in front of them either towards the plain of Stymphalia or towards the shores of the Corinthian Gulf!
Today, visitors who reach the Holy Monastery of Agios Georgios will find a tranquil and idyllic landscape, where nothing hints at its revolutionary history, struggles, passion for freedom, and sacrifices made for it. From the monastery’s exceptional balconies with their windows, one can enjoy an unforgettable sight in all seasons: Lake Doxa prominently in the foreground with the “island” chapel of Agios Fanourios and the entire plateau of Feneos in the background. The dark green slopes of Aroania and the bare rocky peak of Dourdouvana that pierces the sky. The wooded and smooth slopes of Zireia and even further the peaks of Saïtá and Oligyrtos.
In the warm parlor of the guesthouse, the hospitable monks will treat every visitor with their special homemade delicacy: fragrant and delicious rose sweet. Always accompanied by cool water and a warm smile, epitomizing hospitality!
