Lake Vouliagmeni

Lake Vouliagmeni (also known as Lake Heraion) is a coastal lagoon on the Perachora peninsula, in the Municipality of Loutraki–Perachora–Agioi Theodoroi, in the Corinthia regional unit. It lies on the northern shore of the Corinthian Gulf, about 14 kilometres west of Loutraki, and connects to the sea through a narrow natural channel. Thanks to this connection, its waters are brackish, calm and warm, making it one of the most popular and safest swimming spots in the area — ideal even for families with children.

The lake is surrounded by lush, pine-covered hills and still, turquoise waters, creating a strikingly picturesque landscape. Tavernas and fish tavernas operate along its shore, where visitors can enjoy fresh fish and local flavours by the water. Its calm, shallow waters are suitable for swimming almost all year round, as well as for relaxing and water activities.

Very close to the lake stands the ancient Heraion of Perachora, the sanctuary dedicated to the goddess Hera, together with the Melagavi (Heraion) lighthouse on the cape. The combination of the lake, the archaeological site, the lighthouse and the unspoilt natural beauty makes the area ideal for a full-day excursion that blends swimming, history and nature.
