Katavothres of Feneos
🎫 FreeThe Katavothres (sinkholes) of Feneos are a striking natural phenomenon at the southern edge of the plateau. Over the ages, water working through the limestone has carved deep cavities into which the rivers of the plain disappear underground. When the sinkholes became blocked, the plain would flood and a lake would form; when they reopened, the waters drained away. This endless cycle has shaped both the landscape and the life of the Feneos plateau in a way found in few other places.
