Where to watch the sunset in Kiato and Sikyonia

Kiato faces the Corinthian Gulf, and in the evening the light on the water and on the mountains across it keeps changing colour. Here are five spots, in town and a little higher up, to enjoy it.

1. Kiato harbour

The harbour with its fishing boats is the easiest spot: walk there from the centre and sit on the pier or at a café.

2. The promenade

The promenade beside the beach is ideal for an evening walk, with a view over the whole gulf.

3. Kato Diminio

The long beaches of Kato Diminio, next to Kiato, have an open horizon over the Corinthian Gulf and lovely sunsets.

4. The ancient theatre of Sikyon

The auditorium of the theatre looks out over the plain, the sea and the mountains across the water. The late-afternoon light is the most beautiful, but the site has opening hours, so check them before you go.

5. Lalioti and Panorama

For a view from above, head up to the villages. From Lalioti, a few kilometres west of Kiato, you can see almost the whole Corinthian coast, from Xylokastro to Corinth. Panorama, as its name suggests, has spots with views over the Corinthian Gulf.

Tips

• Arrive half an hour before sunset: the best colours often come just before and just after.
• If you do not know the mountain roads, plan to drive back before dark.
